America Reads is designed to connect Federal Work-Study eligible ASU students with the local community through paid employment opportunities. These programs offer pathways for leadership advancement and dynamic skill-building, preparing students for future roles in education, community service, and beyond.
The America Reads Tutor role with America Reads is an ASU program designed to empower families and children from Title I schools and low-income communities by providing high-impact tutoring and mentorship in reading, writing, and math. Tutors and mentors engage with children in person and virtually through one-on-one & small-group, interactive activities tailored to meet Arizona Academic Standards.
The America Reads Associate role partners upper-level and graduate ASU students with local nonprofit organizations to meet the needs of the local community. Past programs include opportunities to supervise fellow students, support adults re-entering the workforce, and engage community members with resources and support programs.
Work-Study jobs in your Community
In America Reads, we provide Federal Work-Study eligible ASU students with paying community service jobs in educational environments, offering them training, experience, and leadership development.

Having a tutoring job at America Reads where I was given the opportunity to collaborate, teach, and lesson plan prepared me for my upcoming career as a teacher. There were many instances in my first year of teaching where I found myself thinking back to experiences at America Reads for insight on what to do.
