Student Testing

Planning ahead for standardized testing

Middle school is a pivotal time for students to build academic confidence and prepare for the next stage of their educational journey. For 5th through 8th grade students, developing strong study habits and preparing for standardized testing can help track progress and identify areas where support is beneficial.

Standardized testing provides insight into how students are mastering key skills in reading, writing and math. Across Arizona, students participate in assessments that evaluate learning in various subjects. For the 2025-2026 school year, the primary testing windows begin in March and end in April.

Reviewing your district’s testing calendar and preparing in advance can help students approach these assessments with confidence. Families can support students by being informed about testing dates and support their students with study routines and encouragement at home.

Eighth grade is also a major transitional moment. As students prepare to move into high school, it is important to begin thinking about academic goals and the opportunities that will help them stay on track for college and career pathways.

Parents and students can explore registration timelines, testing schedules and available resources to ensure they are prepared for the year ahead. By planning early and taking advantage of available guidance from schools, middle school students can build the momentum they need to succeed in high school and beyond.
