César E. Chávez Leadership Institute

Program Overview

The César E. Chávez Leadership Institute (CCLI) is a summer experience for rising juniors and seniors who want to grow as leaders and make a difference in their communities. Students spend time on Arizona State University’s Tempe campus building leadership skills, learning about civic engagement, and exploring the lasting impact of César Chávez’s work. Through hands-on activities and group experiences, students will gain confidence, learn how to use their voice, and take steps toward high school completion and future college opportunities.

Registration is now open. Applications must be submitted by Monday, March 30th, 2026 at 11:59 PM.

Program Details

  • Eligibility: Applicants entering the 11th or 12th grade in Fall 2026 are eligible to apply. While no minimum GPA is required for eligibility, eligible students should demonstrate a GPA of 2.7 or higher.
  • Date and location: June 21-24, 2026 | ASU Tempe
  • Program Fees: Accepted students are required to submit a $50 non-refundable deposit to secure their spot. No other program fees are charged.

About
César Chávez

César Chávez, born on a farm near Yuma, Arizona, was a key figure in labor and civil rights. Co-founding the United Farm Workers with Dolores Huerta, he led strikes and boycotts to improve conditions for farm laborers in California. Despite challenges, including legal battles, his efforts succeeded in securing contracts with growers. Chávez received posthumous honors, including the Presidential Medal of Freedom, for his enduring impact on social justice and human dignity.
