What you need to know
DREAMzone will continue to provide the most current information regarding the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program. “On January 17, 2025, the Fifth Circuit issued its decision ruling that the work authorization benefits of DACA are invalid, but that deferred action (forbearance from deportation) could remain in place. The court stayed its decision pending further action from the Fifth Circuit or the U.S. Supreme Court. Therefore, existing DACA recipients can submit an application to renew their DACA status and continue to receive their deferred action and work authorization for now. As of right now, U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services is renewing current DACA applicants. Individuals who are eligible for DACA but have never had it before can submit first-time applications. However, the government will not process initial requests at this time.
