Summer Break: Hope, promise, momentum

Grades K-3: Little Sun Devils, Big Adventures Grades 4-8: Middle School Momentum Grades 9-12: Getting College-Ready

As spring turns into summer and another successful school year comes to an end, it’s important to encourage students of all ages to keep their momentum going. While the summer break provides an opportunity to take a step back from the school year that was, using these months to continue building on the growing foundation of success, can help us all be best prepared for 2026-2027.

Even while we look ahead, it’s also important to remember, whether your student has just finished second grade, moved from elementary to middle school, or completed all of their high school state testing this year, it is also crucial to recognize and celebrate these accomplishments as well.

Accomplishments and next steps all set the stage for what is to come and no matter where your student may be on the academic journey, these resources are sure to keep your student motivated and prepared over the summer:

For elementary students (K-4):

It is important to keep daily reading and homework routines going strong, as well as keeping young minds active. PBS Kids has a library of “craftivity” videos teaching parents and students how to make intuitive and fun crafts, such as musical instruments, a bird feeder, and even your own volcano.
See all activities here and encourage your student to think ahead and set goals for themselves, such as “What would you like to improve on next school year?”

For middle school students (5-8):

iD Tech is hosting several STEM-based summer programs at the ASU Tempe campus throughout June and July for ages 7through 17. During these day and/or overnight camps, participants will get to learn more about STEM fields through fun activities such as coding, digital art and animation, video game development, engineering and robotics.

For high school students (9-12):

Summer at ASU means campuses across the university are once again buzzing with high school students exploring their interests through immersive academic and enrichment programs. These programs are designed to get students excited about going to college while giving them an idea of what academics at the postsecondary level are like and what to expect from life on campus.
ASU summer camps are engaging, inspiring, and educational for all. From writing workshops to leadership development to underwater robotics, your student is sure to find a program that caters to their unique interests.
